Hear the latest on the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve and learn about Stage 2
6-7pm Wednesday 26 March
Port Phillip EcoCentre, 38 Blessington Street St Kilda VIC 3182
We are excited to have Gio Fitzpatrick, President of the Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve Association as the speaker for the first in our series of PECAN bi-monthly meetings that will feature a special topic. Regular committee meetings will now be held every alternate month.
By now, many people in the communities of Bayside, Port Phillip and Glen Eira will have visited and admired the transformation of a tired golf course to the amazing Chain of Ponds. This collaboration has taken several years of intense work by Bayside Council alongside a team of dedicated volunteers.
This is a chance to learn more about the Reserve, its biodiversity, the multiple functions it performs and the enormous progress that has been made.
The next stage will see the southern area similarly transformed into 2 billabongs or wetlands aiming to deliver on the Reserve Masterplan 2020 objectives:
- A place that provides safe, abundant and diverse habitat for a range of native wildlife and locally endangered species
- A system that maximises water quality and quantity management objectives, including stormwater harvesting and reuse of this water in Bayside and Port Phillip parks and gardens; and pollution reduction and flood mitigation
- A place for all, that is inviting, safe and inclusive for all community members, including a public education centre, and recreational areas for residents and visitors
This event will inform the PECAN community of progress in planning to meet these objectives, make the connections to PECAN’s aims and concerns, and provide opportunities for questions and discussion.
Sorry for the short notice, but we hope to see you there.
