Cities everywhere are facing hotter futures due to climate change. But greening a city can lower temperatures by several degrees, while also improving amenity, wellbeing and biodiversity. The City of Port Phillip is making important steps towards this through its Urban Forest Strategy.

As implementation of this strategy starts, what lessons can we learn from experience elsewhere? How can we make our greening efforts the best they can be, for now and for the future?

Underpinned by rigorous research, technical know-how and passion, they led to improvements in urban forest implementation, a doubling of targets for urban greening and significant benefits for their communities.

This free seminar will inspire local communities in working with Council on the next round of Urban Forest Precinct Plans in Port Phillip.

Our speaker, Kerry Gore, is an inspiring and thought-provoking commentator on urban forests. In his 45-year career in the finance industry Kerry planned and managed major corporate and state and federal government tenders and projects. Following his retirement, Kerry’s focus shifted to how he could support his council’s urban forest management for the benefit of his community. He was a driving force behind community involvement in Glen Eira’s urban forest implementation. He has also written this excellent article about it.
