Mark Ogge, Principal Advisor at The Australia Institute will join us to discuss Labor’s current nature and climate policies. Mark is widely published on climate and energy issues, specialising in the gas industry and the impacts of climate change, particularly the effects of heat and heatwave. Prior to joining The Australia Institute he was a director at Beyond Zero Emissions.

Mark will discuss a range of key questions:

• Are the targets appropriate, and can they be met?
• Are the existing instruments, the Safeguard Mechanism and the Capacity Investment Scheme fit for purpose, or do they need modification or adaptation to be effective?
• Should the overhauled EPBC ACT contribute to meeting climate goals?
• Are current policies adequate for incentivising the renewables buildout to 2035?
• Is the government (through the Australian Energy Market Operator) moving in the right direction in relation to transmission and distribution policies?
• Are the policy settings proposed for the sectors (agriculture, industry, transport etc) adequate?
• Should emissions exported from Australia (Scope 3) be factored into consideration?
